Title: Noise and Capitalism
Publisher: Arteleku Audiolab (Kritika series), Donostia-San Sebastián (Gipuzkoa), Spain
Publication date: September 2009
ISBN: 978-84-7908-622-1

‘Noise’ not only designates the no-man’s-land between electro-acoustic investigation, free improvisation, avant-garde experiment, and sound art; more interestingly,it refers to anomalous zones of interference between genres: between post-punk and free jazz; between musique concrète and folk; between stochastic composition and art brut. – Ray Brassier
If the conditions in which we produce our music affects our playing then let’s try to feel through them, understand them as much as possible and, then, change these conditions.
Alienated language is noise, but noise containspossibilities that may, who knows, be more affective than discursive, more enigmatic than dogmatic.
We find ourselves poised between vicariously florid academic criticism, overspecialised niche markets and basements full of anti-intellectual escapists. There is, afterall, ‘a Franco, Churchill, Roosevelt, inside all of us…’ but this book is written neither by chiefs nor generals. Here the non-appointed, not yet disinterested, practitioners in one way or another, autotheorise ways of thinking through the contemporary conditions for making difficult music and opening up to the willfully perverse satisfactions of the auricular drives.
If you wish to receive a printed copy of this book please write or send an email with your postal address to submitting your own feelings about or responses to the words ‘Capitalism’ and ‘Noise’. Any letters, comments, criticisms, records, CDs or contributions in other media related to this book will be gratefully received in exchange. Post: Arteleku, Kristobaldegi 14 (o nuevo P. BLACK CIRCLE 21st August
Black Circle is proud to bring you;
Live music sensation Frank (Just Frank) the French coldwave duo whom released their debut album 'The Brutal Wave' on Wierd Records last month.
Thankfully, the band’s sound is harder to pin down than hyped “Parisian early ’80s-inflected synth pop” leading us down the road of Cure, D.A.F and Absolute Body Control as reference, accomplishing the french/belgian cold wave sound and keeping what's good from the early 80's . One half the band Chris Vocal's /Bass was born in New Jersey and grew up with the other half Kirti Vocal's / Guitar - bonding over Rage Against The Machine in the french Rivera.
http://www.myspace.com/frankjustfrank
Our favorite newly-wed Todd Hart takes the decks after a long break from the disco circuit.
However Disco was never his "sole jam" he was - after all the one to introduce me to Kassettentäter which lead me onto my obsession with the Belgian Industrial Scene of the early late 70's 80's.
Excited to hear some rare gems from the Dalston Oxfam Shop Archives.
http://dalstonoxfamshop.blogspot.com/
We also have Cocadisco gem Piers Martin playing! Yay!
As well as uplifting disco beats we are expecting some dusty record covers in the selection - delving darker into the mind of disco mania and dredging up some of the dark past to throw into the mix.
Oliver Fay is returning to the Black Circle with another unabashed set designed for sweat!
"Oliver loves to get his fingers filthy with wax ranging from Flexipop, Avant Electronica with an assortment of Wave and Italo nasty's all aiming towards the enhancement of your pleasure!"
http://glossolalia-ailalossolg.blogspot.com/
Don't worry - his twisted Resonance dwelling Glossolalia series will not be entering the Black Circle domain.
To insure smooth transition your flight attendant Marta Poznanski aka DJ Travelsex with insure a safe flight into the depths of musical knowledge (which is pretty good for a pretty girl), lets see what favorites she'll pull out of her nifty flight-safe vinyl box this time?

Music For The Fun Of It - Bene Gesserit
Though Todd of Dalston Oxfam Shop whom is playing at the next Black Circle on the 21st of August Kassettentäter.
A group from Germany (translation is Cassette Destroyer) who collected and compiled a bunch of mainly german underground music, along with the more recognisable, including favorite D.A.F.One song in particular ironically named "Nobody Can Know" I wanted more. The band is called Bene Gesserit which is a name stolen from Frank Herbert's science fiction 'Dune universe'.
Through my research on this band I found they are from Trazegnies, Belgium, lead by Alain Neffe now 60, a prominent and legendary member of the Belgian industrial scene and also including Nadine Bal.
Alain Neffe lead record label INSANE records which includes bands: Human Flesh ,BeNe GeSSeRiT, the Chopstick Sisters, Subject , I Scream , Japanese Genius , Human Dance , The Other Side Of Human Flesh , Cortex and Pseudo Code.
The INSANE myspace states: "Several of these bands are still active musically ,mostly releasing music on other labels ...used to release vinyls and compilations cassettes in the 80's (some of the releases are still available) and you should contact Alain Neffe" if you want them... so I did and now Alain is kindly kept me up-to-date on several releases including the Pseudo Code x Excepter release.
Although good old Mutant Sound I found the album Music For The Fun Of It which hosts my desired 'Knowbody Can Know' track as well as albums 'Fashion Is A Dirty Word' and 'A high, happy, perverse and cynical cry of joy'.
For more from the collection listen on the various kassettentäter myspace pages & Bene Gesserit Myspace
Joy!

Lambkin will read selections from first book of writings 'Dumb Answer to Miracles' (2009), alongside other works. The evening also marks the release of a new Penultimate Press book 'Dripping Junk' comprising 100 drawings Lambkin made during a recent trip to Miami FL.
For the evening, Lambkin is accompanied by Helm aka Luke Younger, who explores field recordings, tape loops, percussion, and electronics. Helm alludes to narrative via abstract compositions which create a tense, daunting environment. A additional act will be announced shortly.

ee records re-release Pseudocode's 'Europa'
Pseudocode 'Europa' | CD 21 May 2010 | EE20 | limited edition 500 copies
Reissue of Pseudocode's vinyl legacy (2 EPs + 1 LP) remastered in superb sound quality by original member Alain Neffe of Insane fame, 30 years later!
Pseudocode (1979-1982) were a coherent unit of 3 individuals (Xavier S., Guy Marc Hinant and Alain Neffe), non-musicians even, combining emotions with electronic experiments, mostly improvised.
They called it 'potlatch music' and were only trying to express themselves through sound rather than pleasing an audience.
Within just a couple of years they released a fine body of work on vinyl and cassette (Insane Music, Pseudo Records, Sandwich Records) and international network compilations (Datenverarbeitung, Ding Dong, Korm Plastics, Grafika Airlines, Third Mind, Trax,....) and were even noticed by fellow experimentalists such as Harold Budd or Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire).
Pseudo Records, 1981 (from: Nostalgie de la Boue)
Pseudo Code was a Belgian experimental - minimal synth band , active at least from 1979 - ?. Their mastermind Alain Neffe is also founder of Insane Music, one of the first great underground tape labels in Europe. Guy-Marc Hinan is one of the two guy's who made the "Sub Rosa" record label. Xavier S used to have a radio show on the Belgian national radio. The group had been temporarily shelved while Alain Neffe concentrated on his main project Bene Gesserit. "We play potlatch music which is emotional music, or more accurately emotional sounds, because we are not musicians".
Trackslisting :

Excepter via Alain Neffe
Mr Alain Neffe of Insane records has just informed me of a new release by Excepter Live Split w/ Pseudo Code 3"CD on 777 was 666 Records
Hypnotic Space Disco '80 model vs '00 model
Both band's tracks are previously unreleased and exlusive for this release (Japanese).
Pseudo Code is a Belgian industrial band, active from 1979 - 1982.
Their mastermind Alain Neffe is also founder of Insane Music
(Trazegnies, Belgium),
one of the first great underground tape labels in europe. Guy-Marc
Hinant is one of the two
guys who made the label "Sub Rosa". Xavier S has a radio show on the
Belgian national radio.
"We play potlatch music which is emotional music, or more accurately
emotional sounds,
because we are not musicians."
Excepter is a six-member improvisational electronic and vocal group
based in NYC lead by "Pork Chop" a dance-a-holic lover boy whom I first encountered in Wreck Room in Bushwick dancing above me - one leg on the bar, one on the wall.
The Excepter live experience remains an unpredictable,
mystifying affair – I didn't know that when I went to see them play at Death by Audio's Maze in September 2009 that I would pass out 10 minutes into the set (which you can stream live by clicking here) (thank you Rhygin Punni and Blue Dream for that one - it was WOAH).
They started jamming in 2002 with the stated intent to use the tools of dance music
towards esoteric ends.
Excepter was behind many of the classic recordings associated with the
00's 'Brooklyn Noise' phenomenon.
Streams of live recordings can be found on Excepter's website

Wanna Be Your Lover
Sicilian brothers Carmelo & Michelangelo La Bionda -'The Blonde Brothers' made their first release in 1973 (!) titled F.LLI LA BIONDA SRL and released I wanna be your lover in 1980.
A 70's culture website claims that along with Giorgio Moroder, La Bionda were the first Italians, "to believe in. . . disco sound".
In 1983 they began a successful and fruitful collaboration with Righeira producing "Vamos a la playa", "No Tengo Dinero" and "The summer is ending." In 1984 Caramel produced the solo single "I Love You." The brothers whom founded the futuristic studios Logic Studios in Milan continue still to manage it.
They have some terribly trashy films tunes under their belt including soundtracks for; Children of the night, Police Boss, Miami Supercops and the 2001 italian SURVIVOR!
And amazing song titles; Hard Bass, Baby Shopping, 1-2-3-4 Gimme Some More! / We like it.

Sexual Harrassment are one of those names that make music so fun, a almost literal one-hit wonder, SH is actually a one-man enterprise, written and performed by Lynn Toliver, a.k.a. David Payton, and this is the only piece of vinyl ever officially put out under this name.
